A New Perspective by Naomi Fata printed in July 2013 edition of the Hudson River SamplerA friend recounted to me an unexpected trip she made recently. As her airplane lifted off the ground and gained altitude she marveled at the view of the city. Each intricately designed roadway formed traffic patterns directing vehicles throughout the metropolis. Every building was constructed with precision providing productive workplaces or warm housing. From the height of her perspective she saw the order of engineers and architects and had a glimpse of the orderly flow of life. Down there hundreds of thousands of people were living their lives, yet she reveled at the fact that God holds it all in the palm of His hand.
Life viewed from earth’s perspective seems challenging, messed up, unexpected and worrisome to say the least. But to think that each moment is held, orchestrated and observed by the Father who watches over us all. Nothing is unexpected to Him. Each event of our lives is a chance to look to Him for His perspective asking for eyes to see, ears to hear and a heart to believe. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, news of unemployment, our own health or a myriad of other circumstances He is watching over all. He knows the carefully constructed path He is waiting to lead us down if we will trust.
Not one of us is here by mistake. Each one was planned. Every incident of our lives He foreknew and can use to transform our lives. When eyes are focused downward and inward we don’t see the path. But when turned upward we live by faith rather than sight. Only He can bring the right people across our paths, only He can open the doors to the right doctor or better health, only He knows the plan for tomorrow.
At times it is a challenge to remember that God is in control, that He knows everything that is going to happen!
