Yesterday I was out on usual errands with my two young children (age 2 and 3 1/2). After grocery shopping and a stop at my business supply store I promised them a trip to the playground but it was a cold day here in NY and I personally didn’t want to be on the playground in the cold so I settled for the play land of a nearby McDonalds.
As I pulled into the parking lot, unbuckled and began to dismount but I felt the Holy Spirit nudging me. (For a while I have been praying that He would make me more sensitive to His leading, especially in the area of giving out literature etc. I make all these poems into bookmarks and make all sorts of other printable material with the prayer that it will turn hearts to the Lord but sometimes I have felt like I wasn’t really using it as much as I could. ) I felt Him telling me to put a couple bookmarks in my purse and leave them in McDonalds. I had a little conversation with Him about
Where would I leave them in McDonalds? It isn’t like our bookmarks have a complete gospel presentation on them? Would good would they do to lead someone to Christ?
But despite my futile thoughts I was obedient.
The kids and I went in and ordered a couple chicken nuggets, french fries and sweet tea. Then we made our way over to the playland. We prayed and enjoyed our snack. The kids began to play but soon drank all the sweet tea. Taking advantage of the free refills we headed back over to the beverage counter. Right next to that counter a lady was seated with her Bible and devotional book open, engrossed in reading.
“This is the lady”
I felt the Holy Spirit nudge me
So I got the two bookmarks out of my purse and headed back over to her. I am not one to start conversations with strangers but He put the words in my mouth. Truly I am not sure what I said, but I mentioned something about how wonderful it was to see someone loving the Word and about how we love to bless others and had written these poems to be a blessing. She was receptive and after a short conversation I returned to the play area with the children.
Before we left the lady came over to us and thanked us again for the bookmarks. She was blessed!
This is the Call to Service. Just like that. In ordinary life, God reached down and brought someone into my life to be a blessing. What a miracle! What a privilege!
