A wise man once said, “life does not begin until you get to the end of your comfort zone.” In principle this is very true, but in practice only Jesus makes it possible.

comfort zoneI think everyone has a place they do not want to go because it makes them uncomfortable. Possibly because of fears or past failure we consider those areas off-limits. It can also include giftings we are afraid to use because of low self-esteem (poem: Full Esteem Ahead) or the subjective judgement of others.

Don’ live in the easy or routine places all your life. You need to step out of your comfort zone with Jesus and really live!

As an illustration, I dislike anything to do with plumbing. When you enter this world you never know what is going to break, crack or leak – It also doesn’t go far in the “impressing your spouse category” when “Mr. Fix-it” shows up and really fixes it!

I have a tendency to live in the easy trade zone and stick to the building trades I enjoy. What happens is I push plumbing off until the “silly” thing sticks and won’t shut off.

Case in point; my toilet fill valve was jamming and needed to be replaced. The tank cover off and drained, the valve dismantled, new supply line etc. etc. I just had to go past my comfort zone and complete this project. I prayed that Jesus would be beside me and give me what I needed to complete the dreaded plumbing job. Everything went well and worked as designed! I felt great accomplishing something out of my comfort zone.

Life is filled with these situations. Some you have to address and others you can brush aside for later. But it is always better to face a problem with Jesus by your side and step into that discomfort zone to accomplish what life has for you. (Also, what The Lord has for you). Don’t settle for scraps of bread when you can enjoy the whole loaf with honey.

Love you and be bold in Jesus
