Do you Question God?

How many of us have been born and raised in church, yet struggle with faith? Is it our faith or the faith of our parents? Do we just believe what we have been taught? Or is it a living reality in our own lives? I know I’ve been there. I’ve asked the questions.

Statistics say there is a sharp rise in evangelical, born-again young people leaving the church. Now more than 1/3 of 18-22 year olds say that have no religious affiliation (from the nytimes.com). Also christianitytoday.com says that ¼ of young people have serious doubts about the faith they were raised in yet feel the church is not a safe place to express doubts.

I wonder why it is that people struggle with faith. Why did I struggle with my own faith?

Is it because of scandals that we hear of church leadership caught in disorderly conduct and choose to view God by the gauge of other people’s lives?

Is it because the faith we have been taught seems to lack relevance in regard to the problems and temptations of our times?

Have the circumstances of our lives caused us to wonder why God would allow us to go through pain, death, loss or abuse?

Or do we observe followers of all faiths and think that they have as much truth in the faith they profess as we have in ours?

No matter what our questions are the important thing is what we do with them. Hiding them in our hearts and walking away does nothing to answer them but only causes us to live disillusioned and angry with our belief system.

What if instead we took our questions straight to God and asked Him? He promises that if we seek Him, we will find Him. (Jeremiah 29:13)

Don’t bury your questions. Ask Him. Seek Him. He will be found.

He answered my questions. He will answer yours.
