Dear Ones,

I love Abraham’s love for God and his passion for obedience.  He was not happy with his life in Ur of the Chaldeans even though he had it made. If he just followed the traditions of his fathers, life would be great.

But Abraham had a deep longing in his heart to really know God for himself and not stoically go through the traditional motions of worship without passion. And so we read; ” and they departed to go to the land of Canaan.”

There were many testings and hardships on the road to Canaan but Abraham thought they would all be worth it if only God would spend some time with him. He did!

As Abraham opened his heart up to God and beseeched Him to enter his present and fill his most passionate longing for a deeper knowledge (Eph 1:17) of God, He showed up and filled Abraham’s void.  So many times after God’s visits with Abraham an altar was built just to honor the occasion.  I’m sure it took a lot of hard work to build one of those altars  but Abraham had so much love for God that he had to show it in this manner.  Almost like a hug and kiss from Father God.

May we all have this kind of passion for God and go beyond traditions.  Let our obedience and commitment to His Word be our altar, and our praise and song be the lighting fire which ultimately becomes a hug and a kiss on His precious face.
