This morning I noticed my emotions seemed to be running high. I’m not sure why, whether stress or fatigue or just not feeling my best.  BUT when I find my temper short and my tongue sharp I know something is amiss.

A couple of years ago a friend recommended this great resource to me – a small book Prayers and Proclamations by Derek Prince.

This little book contains Scripture for all different situations. This morning I went to the section of Mental and Emotional Stability.

The first two Scriptures in this sections were just what I needed today!

  • We have labored and been heavy laden, but we come to You, Lord Jesus, that You may give us rest.  We take Your yoke upon us and learn from You, for You are meek and lowly in heart, and we shall find rest for our souls. For Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. (based on Matthew 11:28-30)

  • There remains therefore a Sabbath – rest for the people of God.  For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.  Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. (Hebrews 4:9-11)

Exactly what I needed to be reminded of!

When my soul is at rest with God my lips will always speak with grace and peace. When my words become otherwise I know that I am not resting in Him. The Bible calls this disobedience.

What a delicate balance – especially when we are working hard endeavoring to serve God our souls can become self-reliant focused on the doing of the work rather than on the God who works through us when we rest in Him.
