Hurry, Rushing … we are told it is a sign of our time. Cell phones, social media, the fastest rate of travel ever known to man.
Business, things to do… everything pressing in for our time.
More meetings, more activities, we don’t want to be late… we don’t want to miss out.
In work we find the pressure to do better – to do more – pressing down on us.
Sometimes it is easy to look at the activities of life as accomplishments – to live for what we can get done so we hurry to do more.
People talk of the economy, struggling to make ends meet, so we work all the harder to put food on the table.
In the midst of it all one day passes into the next, opportunities are lost to stop, to rest in the peace of God that He promised. People went by longing for someone to hear them – to care, but we were too rushed, too hurried with our own affairs. Our children tried to get our attention, to share the joy of their day, but we were too busy rushing to the next appointment.
If part of Christian life is showing His love how will we see those He wants us to love if we are running through life? Should we not all pray over our time, our encounters and our day so that when those who go by need His love we aren’t too preoccupied with our own lives to miss the opportunity? Is not His love for us enough to slow us down?
It is a constant battle to calm one’s life, to live the Christ life.
