Pushing off from shore on a summer evening, my husband and I paddled our kayaks out into the open water of the lake. The sun had set. In the darkness we quietly moved toward the lights of the opposite shore line. Resting our paddles for a moment we gazed upward to see the stars above us. Our thoughts could not help but focus on the Maker of such beauty. There in the middle of the lake we bowed our heads to give thanks. As we prayed suddenly we became aware of light surrounding us. The moon had risen over the lake and was shining down upon us. It seemed as if God for a moment reached down from heaven to earth to meet us there. Some might chalk it up to coincidence but we knew that it was God’s special way of letting us know His presence in our day-to-day existence as we drew close to Him.
