A lady from my Bible study group read an blog post from challies.com this past week entitled Walk Like a Pilgrim. I found it to profoundly challenge my view of my own Christian journey.

I too easily get focused on the difficulties of today like whether my work is done, my house is clean, or even being on time to menial appointments. These things bog me down. The blog points out that when we are riding to be crowned the trials of this world should have little impact on us. The focus is heaven, everything here on earth is for heaven.

My view of death also needs to change. I don’t think of my life as just passing through on my way to heaven, therefore I mourn death all too much. For saints death means they have arrived at their final destination. I know this truth wrestle with the reality of it in my own heart.

Challies also points out that the Puritans, who had this pilgrim mentality, faced danger and persecution. Today he writes that “evangelicals are in danger of bitterness and despair”. How true this is. I have fallen into that myself and times and it is serious business.

I encourage you all to read the full article.

Let’s all be mindful that our hope is heaven and we are just passing through.
