We are faced with making decisions every day. What time to get up, what to have for breakfast, what to wear that day and the list goes on and on. Some decisions do not take a lot of thought and are pretty easy to make. However, there are decisions that are very difficult and take quite a long time to think and pray about before the final decision is made.
I was recently faced with one of the most difficult decision I have ever had to make. This decision involved me teaching Sunday school once again in September. See, I have been teaching Sunday school for 20 year. Always the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade children. I enjoyed every week–seeing the children learn something new or hear a familiar story but from another perspective. Teaching the children that God truly cares for and loves them. I was where God wanted me to be and I loved every minute. I looked forward to doing His work every Sunday.
However in November of 2012 my life took a turn from fairly normal–working 5 days a week to a more hectic working 6 days a week. With the 6th day being Sunday. Two Sunday’s a month I would teach and go right to work after teaching. Needless to say I was feeling completely overwhelmed and I knew something had to change. So I was faced with the decision to stop teaching. With much prayer and my faith that God would help me make this decision I continued to work and teach 2 Sunday’s a month until the end of the year.
Finally June 9, 2013 came. This was the end of the Sunday school year for the summer. It was on that evening that I knew what had to be done. With peace in my heart I emailed my Sunday school superintendent to let her know that I would not be teaching in September. The Lord helped me make this decision. He knew that if I kept up this hectic pace that His work would not be done to the fullest. He also knew that the children in my class would not have my complete focus and that I would not be using the gift He gave me.
So as we face the many decisions in our live–some easy and some not so easy—know that God is there to help and guide us. Keep praying and seeking God. He will answer in His time and help make those difficult decisions a bit easier to make.
