Ever since I was dating my husband I planned to homeschool my future children. I’m not sure why, maybe an ideal. Maybe because I thought it was better educationally. Maybe because I thought I could help them grow into God-fearing adults.
For years I mentally prepared myself for what life as a homeschooling, work at home-mom would look like. For two years I tried the homeschool journey. And after two years I found God challenging me to let go. It doesn’t mean I will never be a homeschool mom again. But for now I have relinquished the responsibility. Two are in the public elementary school and one is in a two-day preschool program.
As I let go I find myself drawn continually to prayer. I no longer have control of what they learn and what they hear. But I can be diligent with the time that I have with them.
Our school mornings begin with the ordinary household normal challenge of getting kids dressed, fed and out the door but also we’ve built into our routine a morning devotional and a school day proclamation.
I wrote this proclamation because I believe in the power of the words that we speak. Having the children repeat life-giving, truth-filled words with also teach their hearts more fully of who they are in Christ.
Teach your children to speak God's words of truth over themselves Share on XOur proclamation goes like this
“I am loved by God. I will be confident because He is always with me. God has given me a sound mind to understand my school work. I will choose to be a blessing to someone today. “
One our second day of school my five-year old paused as I asked her to repeat the last line with me, “I will choose to be a blessing to someone today”
“But Mom that’s hard.”
Yes, dear little girl it is hard.
I was proud of her for realizing the depth of that commitment and that is why I included that phrase in our proclamation. I want my children to know that blessing other’s is a choice. Blessing others means that we have to choose to think about others before ourselves, with have to choose compassion and kindness. And with His strength we are able to choose.
For your download of this proclamation I have two options – a page with 4 postcard size proclamations on it or a full size page with just one proclamation.
If you are a grandparent these would be great for your school age grandchildren, or if you are a Sunday School teacher you can hand them out to your class.
