Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest : go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
So close! The man that came to Jesus asking about eternal life had obeyed the commandments. He followed the rules, but he never gave up his whole heart to God. His wealth held him back.
How sad that most of us do the same thing. No we aren’t super wealthy or holding back our fortune. No we hold back our heart. We will give God everything, but one tiny little piece of ourselves that then holds back our heart from God. God wants our whole heart. Maybe money isn’t your issue. Maybe it is lying, stealing or some other type of self gratification that is keeping your whole heart from God.
The man in these verses kept his wealth, but in doing so he also kept an emptiness inside. A hole that could never be filled by anything or anyone, but God.
