A Christian mom and a Muslim daughter…. it sounds odd right? We all want to know how or why someone who grew up in a Christian home would convert to Islam.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up this book but it looked good.

As I was reading I began to see how people who are not Christian view those who are trying to convince them of Christianity. All my life I have been focused on trying to learn to preach the Bible to people who don’t believe it. I’ve learned what you would call apologetics, to argue the points of faith.

Alana, the Muslim daughter, relates how her mom (a Christian) tried to argue her out of her choice of faith. This made her feel like her mom wasn’t respecting her as a person. It wasn’t like she didn’t know what the Bible said but she had made a choice to believe something else.

I reflected on my own faith. My father became a Christian in college and from then on our family (mom, dad, brother and myself) has attempted to preach the gospel to that side of the family. Never once had I thought of how they felt – having us Christians trying to make them believe at every opportunity. What tension that must cause !

Patricia, the Christian mom, writes on how she has learned to stop arguing with her daughter, to stop trying to convince her that the Bible is right and begin to love her with a mother’s love. She is beginning to let go and let God, realizing it isn’t in her power to bring Alana back to Christ. It is in God’s hands and she has to trust Him.

This is a thought provoking read that causes those of us with unsaved family to think more deeply about how we can love our family. How we can stop arguing about faith and be Christ to those who don't know Him? Share on X
