This particular quote from Spurgeon challenged me in several areas.
- Diligence:
In the kingdom of God it is so important to be diligent with the things He has given us to do. It is easy to talk about our vision, our call, or the desires He puts on our hearts but it is another thing to do them. It takes perseverance to walk by faith and not by sight. Many times as we begin to carry out the tasks He has given us we can not see the end result in the natural. Our work for Him might seem foolish or insignificant but He has called us to be faithful in it. Every act of faithfulness in good work for His kingdom He keeps track of!
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
Even this past week He has been impressing this verse on my heart. When we don’t see the results it is easy to get weary. Keep your eyes on Jesus. He sees what you do in secret!

Dependence on Him
Work that we do for the kingdom is not done in our own strength but through Him. He will give the strength we need to carry out each task. Sometimes I hear people comment that they just can’t do “_________” right now because they don’t have the energy. This might be true because they are either not doing what He has gifted them to do or because they are not drawing from His supply of strength.
I believe that we never know His strength until we need it. He never gives strength before we need it but right at the given moment. The promise it that His power is made perfect in our weakness.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
Prayer
Lord, I want to walk in the way You have prepared for me. I desire to be faithful in the work You have given me to do. Help me not to grow weary but to rely on You for strength every step of the way. I believe that Your power is made perfect in my weakness. Thank You that Your grace is sufficient for me. Guard my heart against relying on my own strength and teach me to live in Your strength.
