Star Trek: The Next Generation was one of my favorite shows as a kid. To Boldly go where NO man has gone before, is part of the opening titles. It brought this burst of courage in me every time I heard that and I wanted to be that type of person. The Bible tells us to BE that person. Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Thinking of Paul (most scholars believe he wrote the book of Hebrews) and how he writes in Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Be careful for nothing screams to me GO BOLDLY. The lesson I have learned and apply to my life from both of these verses is this. Go boldly and tell God your heart’s desires (requests). They wont always come to pass, but it is not about receiving what we request. It is about having that familiarity with God. That bond, that trust, that intimate relationship with God. It is that alone which allows us to approach the throne of God. Not just approach God on His throne, but approach Him BOLDLY.

The definition of BOLDLY is this. Not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff. Courageous and daring. Approach God’s throne courageously, aware that He is going to hear your requests, though He may not grant them (Psalm 115:3-But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.), but be daring. That one thing you really want. That you see NO way of happening, ask. Dare to see God’s full power in your life.

The title Boldly Go Where Few of Us Dare to Go is the simple observation I’ve made in my 18 year walk with God. I used to be afraid to ask God for anything. Afraid if what I asked for wasn’t His will He would be so disappointed in me. How wrong I was. There are many things I’ve asked God to grant me and there are things He has withheld, as well as prayers He has answered five times beyond what I hoped would come to pass.

Don’t be afraid to go before God. Be bold. Be YOU. Be intimate with the Creator of the world because He longs to be intimate with you. Stutter, yell, sing, cry, but go BOLDLY before the throne and make your requests known unto God. Too many fellow believers are held back by lies the devil sells us right as we’re headed toward the throne. See if any of these ring true in your own life. LIE 1- I’m not good enough for God to answer my prayer. LIE 2- It is selfish to pray for myself. LIE 3- God would never bring that to pass, I’m asking for too much. LIE 4-I should be praying for other people, they’re more important. Let me address each lie. LIE 1 is destroyed by John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. If Jesus didn’t walk this Earth to condemn us, then we cannot condemn ourselves by measuring how good we are before we pray. LIE 2 is destroyed by Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. The Bible tells us to go to God. So how is it selfish to pray for ourselves? (DO NOT MISTAKE MY WORDS FOR SELFISH PRAYER. WE CAN BE SELFISH IN OUR PRAYERS, BUT IT IS NOT SELFISH TO PRAY FOR OURSELVES. UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE CHANGES YOUR PRAYER LIFE AND RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.) LIE 3 is destroyed by every prayer spoken by Old Testament believers. Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Gideon. Good old Gideon is the story in Scripture that destroys this lie. Judges 6:36-40 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said….WOW, did you read that? Read it all where Gideon asks God for signs to prove God was really telling him he was going to be used to save Israel. BOLDLY. Gideon went BOLDLY!!!!!! Lie 4 is destroyed by God and the work He does daily in each of our lives. We are ALL important to God, not one of us is held higher than the other. Philippians 2:3-5 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus: Jesus prayed for himself, but never did he think himself above us when it is CLEAR as day He is PERFECTION. Never did he treat the disciples lower than himself, nor did He degrade or put Himself down to lift them up. YES, we must pray for others it is the greatest blessing we can receive. Yet, we must not put ourselves down by considering ourselves unimportant. We must see to ourselves before we can ever see to anyone else. God works on us through prayer and our daily life so we are more effective in the lives of others. Pray for others, but don’t let that stop you from lifting your own needs and desires (requests) up to God. God is the giver of all good gifts and He waits to hand them to you every day.

This quote truly says it all.

TRY CLAIMING GOD’S BLESSINGS INSTEAD OF MERELY LONGING FOR THEM. **Henry Jacobsen**
