How to Live in the PresentHow to live in the present

Does life seem hard? Like a drag? Unlike what you imagined? Perhaps it is a hectic schedule or a stressful work environment that leaves you struggling with discontent.

Is part of our struggle with how to live in the present because we expect daily life to be easy?

Let’s look at some of the things we say and other people say

  • I can’t wait for the kids grow up so we can go on vacation
  • I can’t wait to retire so I don’t have to deal with my coworkers.
  • I can’t wait for the weekend.
  • I can’t wait till……

In our minds we think that life will get easier; that another day we will have more ‘me’ time; that in the next season of life we will have less responsibilities or obligations. This attitude focuses our minds away from the present, leaving us with less mental capacity to deal with the challenges we are currently facing.

But how could we change our view point?

Often we focus on trying to find ways to make our lives easier rather than embracing the purpose God has for us in this moment.

We all have challenges. But we have hope.

Look at Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” He is our refuge, He has the strength for this challenge. He promises help!

Ponder James 1:2-4 “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.…”

He is there to guide us, give wisdom. Strengthen us.

If we focus on Him, asking for His will to be done in today our sight becomes set on His ability to work rather than on boredom or struggle with the ebb and follow of a life of routine.

Lord, grant me wisdom for today, to know what the priorities are. I want to live purposefully each moment. Thank you for the challenges unique to my life which you have used to develop my character and to draw me closer to yourself. Amen
