…………………
When was the last time you woke up on the ‘wrong side of the bed’?
Maybe the alarm clock didn’t go off, making you late for work. Perhaps you awoke with a stuffy nose and slight headache. Or went to make your morning coffee only to find you had forgotten to pick up a new can at the grocery store the day before. For whatever reason, your day seems messed up making you grumpy and out of sorts.
Have you ever thought you had your crabbiness under control until you heard your words coming out – sharp, cutting, sarcastic and impatient?
We all have days like that. It is so easy to blame it on life or our emotions being out of whack. Often rather than attempt to change our attitude we just accept that we are having a bad day and hope that tomorrow will be better, and expecting our friends and family to forgive us for our crankiness, accepting our excuse that we are just out of sorts.
In our hearts we hear His voice gently convicting us concerning how we’ve treated our loved ones during our bad days. We don’t want to be reacting to how we feel, desiring to be loving and kind even on our off days but feel unable to produce these good actions.
Maybe that is just it. We aren’t capable for producing goodness in our own strength. In and of ourselves we can’t produce the love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness, which are some of the fruit of the Spirit referred to in the Bible. So how then can our lives manifest these fruits on our good days and bad days?
What would happen if we asked His forgiveness for all our negative thinking, cutting words and bad attitudes, asking Him to enter into each day of our lives? Could He change us one day at a time into individuals demonstrating His fruits: love – joy – peace – patience – kindness –
I believe He will. All we have to do is ask and He delights to grant our request.
