This is a continuation of last week’s post Bee Careful

In John 16:33 Jesus tells us that there will be trouble in this life and then He blesses us with; “but I have overcome the world” We can take that to mean that He has a remedy for our troubles and a way to avoid many stumbling blocks.

Many Christians have been conditioned to believe that the ‘BUT’ in John 16:33 refers to  Christ’s defeat of Satan and our permission to come into the presence of God through Christ at the end of life. It most certainly does include this wonderful truth but it also includes a direction for us to live victorious in the years God has given us while we dwell on this earth.

A verse seldom associated with John 16:33 is found in Psalm 94:12-13

Psalm 94:12-13 NV

Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord,
the one you teach from your law;
You grant them relief from days of trouble,
till a pit is dug for the wicked.

You will notice that discipline is mentioned in this verse (12) and that can result in relief from the days of trouble (13). I will just list the type of discipline we need to pursue or experience for this to happen:

  1. Submit: Invite Jesus into your situation every day and allow Him to guard your thoughts, words and actions.
  2. Obedience: Spend time in His Word so you will know His viewpoint and promises
  3. Prayer: Talk to God about everything – always!
  4. Listen : Go to your mountain or place and just wait for His presence and filling.

The strong relationship with Jesus that results from these disciplines in our lives gives rise to the Holy Spirit’s control of our decisions, temperament, wisdom, and spiritual discernment and other godly restraints in our lives that naturally spare us untold grief and misery.

Love you and be a blessing
