Traditions are wonderful. They help us remember. Some traditions bring warm memories of special moments.
But what is the balance between tradition and ritual?
This past week our Sunday School lesson was on celebrating communion / the Lord’s Table. Our church happens to do communion on the first Sunday of every month. Regardless of how frequently a church serves the Lord’s Table aren’t we all endanger of taking it for granted, letting it become a habit, and not letting the real meaning of it penetrate our hearts each time we drink and eat commemorating His death.
How should I pray or teach our class to pray in the area of communion?
This is the question I was asking myself and the Lord last week as I prepared for the lesson. I am all too guilty of allowing my heart and mind to wander during the service.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes

This is the prayer card the Lord led me to print for this lesson. In light of the age group we are teaching (5th and 6th grade) it is short and simple, but is that not a great prayer for us all?

Help me Lord. Help me remember why You died. Help me remember the price for my freedom. Teach my heart what You died to free me from. I need You to teach me because I cannot seem to teach myself. I try to cultivate my mind to grasp the greatness of Your gift but I can’t. Only You can. Thank You that You are the perfect teacher. Amen
