Standing on a corner of a crowded city street, throngs of people pass by. Driving down the highway, commuters hurry to daily destinations. In the crowded grocery isle each one rushes to grab the fixings for supper.
Daily we cross paths with people. Real people with real problems just like us. How often we brush past focused on our own world.
So many people.
What do you see? An obstacle in your way? A face in the sea of others?
Or do you see the person – the value of a life?
Think about the meaning of a life. God took great care creating each individual from before birth. He knows the number of hairs on each head. He sees the potential of inner beauty in each heart. But what do we see when we look at a person? Just the outer appearance of costly dress, or pleasant features? Smiling upon those who are pleasing to the eye and frowning on those who aren’t?
I think of Jesus as He continually met the crowds in need. He had compassion – LOVE, because He saw the heart in need of His touch. I want to see people as He sees them. To see beyond the surface to the person in need of a hug; to the desperation of a family trying to make ends meet; to the child wanting attention; to see each life of intrinsic value.
This is a month of love: love for our children, love for a spouse, love for family and friends. May we all take a moment to ask God to help us extend love to all those around us.
